“We honestly couldn’t be happier with what Drew from Wild Root Solutions created in our backyard. This was so much more than a landscaping project. He took the time to understand how we wanted our family to actually use the space, while also solving some significant water and drainage problems around our home.

One of our biggest concerns was water around the foundation. Rather than just putting in a drain and covering it up, Drew looked at the property as a whole. He built up the grade around the house to move water away from the foundation and incorporated the drainage into a beautiful rock and rain garden. What started as a problem area is now one of the coolest parts of the yard. He even built a cedar bridge across it so our boys can run back and forth over the rock garden, and we have a dedicated area next to it for their water table and outdoor water play. Our son has already managed to turn just about every feature Drew designed into some kind of game or competition.

That kind of thoughtfulness carried through the entire project. The yard now has flowing paths, a flat lawn area to play, native-looking planting areas, the rain garden, a huge dedicated play structure area and a fire pit area. Everything feels connected and intentional, but at the same time natural. It is beautiful without feeling like a yard you’re afraid to actually use. It’s incredibly functional for our family.

One of the things that meant the most to me was what Drew did with a cedar tree my grandfather had planted roughly 45 years ago. We unfortunately had to take the tree down, but Drew found ways to keep it as part of the property. He used sections of the cedar trunk to create retaining walls and landscape features throughout the yard, and even took a clipping from the original tree so we can hopefully keep it growing for another generation. That wasn’t something he had to do. It was just one of many personal touches that showed how much he cared about the project and about what the property meant to us.

Drew went above and beyond in so many ways, including things we hadn’t originally thought of ourselves. He didn’t just execute a plan. He kept looking for ways to make the design work better, look better, solve problems and make the space more meaningful for our family.

It’s honestly still a little surreal to walk outside and realize this is our backyard. It is beautiful, fun and functional, and knowing that the underlying water issues were addressed at the same time gives us a lot of peace of mind.

Most importantly, we’re already watching our kids use the yard exactly the way we hoped they would. They run across the bridge, climb over the rocks, play around the rain garden, run through the paths and play structure, and find new ways to turn the entire backyard into an adventure.
